Dr. Robert Jacobson

Dr. Jacobson founded Worldesign to develop software applications and products based on virtual worlds concepts. Dr. Jacobson has extensive experience developing and marketing communication technologies, as well as in the general management of technology incubators.

Prior to founding Worldesign, Dr. Jacobson was a co-founder and Associate Director of the Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HIT Lab) at the Washington Technology Center, the state-funded technology incubator in Seattle. To support the HIT Lab, Dr. Jacobson created an industrial consortium that raised more than $3 Million in its first year. The HIT Lab has become the West Coast's premier industrial virtual worlds R&D laboratory.

Dr. Jacobson holds a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from UCLA and M.A.s in Television Studies and Communications Management, respectively, from UCLA and the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Southern California. In 1980-81, he was a Fulbright Scholar in Scandinavia studying and lecturing on telecommunications and economic development. He is a well-known speaker at virtual worlds, design, and GIS conferences, with publications in these fields.
