Worldesign's Story

A History of Virtual Experience

Worldesign, Inc. was incorporated in the Spring of 1992, with initial capitalization by its Founders, Dr. Robert E. Jacobson, Mr. Charles E. Dagit III, and Mr. Peter C.C. Wong. The company was initially set up to perform software design and development services, with the expectation that proprietary software products would result from those services. Upon incorporation, Worldesign immediately began work on two contracts, one for Puget Sound Power & Light and the other for the Sumitomo Group's Japan Research Institute and MITI, to study the application of virtual worlds and geospatial software technologies to architecture, construction, and facilities management.

Over the past three years, Worldesign has become a leading developer of virtual worlds software for facility management applications, successfully completing software specification and design projects for prominent clients including the U.S. Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA); The Idaho National Engineering Lab (INEL); the Evans and Sutherland Computer Corporation; and one of the most profitable casinos in the United States, Foxwoods.

Currently, Worldesign is experiencing strong demand for the conversion of stand-alone virtual worlds into online experiences. We are combining our strengths in worldbuilding and tools for online services (like the VRML 3D modeling language) to develop new network-based applications for virtual worlds.
