Danbury Printing and Litho Company
The production of Wired is a quite complex process, involving design and editing working in San Francisco, Utah and elsewhere, while the actual physical layout and production operations are performed in Danbury, Connecticut.
Color separations take place on the DS America 608 scanner directly into the 10-track Scitex system. Low-res EPS images are provided for page layout. Preliminary color correction is presformed on the Scitex Imager and proofed on the actual paper stock using the Kodak Approval digital color proofing system. Additional electronic pre-press in-house at Wired using scans from the HP ScanJet IIc and Kodak Photo CD. QuarkXPress pages are converted to Postscript and RIP'd via Scitex Universal Gateway to the Scitex system's Micro Assembler, where the low-res images are automatically replaced with color-corrected, hi-res scans. Composed digital proofs are submitted for final approval. Final film is plotted of an Eray. The is printed on a sheet-fed press, while the inside pages are printed on a Harris-Heidelberg M-1000 web press. Paper is Repap/Midtec's recycled 45# Multiweb matte text and 80# Lithofect Plus Dull cover.
