Birthday parties are celebrated
almost weekly, given Wired and
HotWired's 120+ employees. During June, 1995, for example, wedding anniversary celebrations, Friday
Dress-up Day, and
Douglas Coupland's Microserfs party were also celebrated as company events.
White-water river-rafting, camping
weekends and San Francisco Bay cruise parties are also annual events at Wired.
And finally, don't forget the annual company anniversary party!
Social events are an
important part of Wired's culture and networking. In a
city like San Francisco, the nightlife is always thriving. Wired has
defined itself as a company which knows how to throw a good party. This is
partially due to the twenty-something crowd that makes up most of Wired's
staff, but much of the credit should go to one of Wired's founding employees,
Amy Crickett. Amy has done everything at Wired from receptionist to customer
service to marketing to office manager, but has finally come up with the title
of Special Projects. While setting up Wired's famous parties is not her only
responsibility, it is probably the part she enjoys most. The parties range
from a formal cocktail party at San Francisco's suave Cafe de Nord to a
warehouse rave with smoke machines and 120 beats per minute. The renowned yet
exclusive events are crucial to maintaining and renewing the strength of
Wired's informal, social network.
